The comprehensive external review will be undertaken by:
- Lori A. Goetsch served as Dean of Kansas State University Libraries since May 2004. Goetsch came to Kansas State after serving as Director of the Public Services Division at the University of Maryland's libraries, where she provided leadership for service activities in the main research library and six branch libraries. Goetsch is a member of the American Library Association, serving as a member of the board of directors of its academic division, the Association of College and Research Libraries, and as President of the division from 2009-2010. Goetsch has been involved with numerous research projects and has published on topics ranging from feminist pedagogy to library organization. She earned an MLIS from Rosary College, now Dominican University, and master's and bachelor's degrees, both in English, from Illinois State University.
- Ivan Gaetz serves as Dean of the University of Wyoming Libraries, a position held since 2016, following four years as Library Director at Colorado College. Prior to this, he was Dean of Libraries at Regis University in Denver for 11 years and Library Director at Regent College, a graduate school of the University of British Columbia for 8 years. He began his library career as a technical services librarian at Columbia University in New York City. Gaetz holds a Ph.D. degree from the University of British Columbia, a ThM from the University of Toronto, an MDiv from the University of Saskatchewan, and an MEd and MLS from the University of Alberta. He founded two scholarly online open-access journals, Collaborative Librarianship in 2009 and Jesuit Higher Education: A Journal, in 2011, both in current publication. He also serves on the editorial board of the University Press of Colorado and Utah State University Press. Gaetz is a member of the American Library Association, the Association of College and Research Libraries, and the Wyoming Library Association.
Charge:
The external review team will make an independent appraisal and provide recommendations to improve and expand the Library’s progress. The overall goal of the external review is to conduct a candid assessment of the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and challenges facing the Library.
The following are areas that will be assessed:

- Strategic planning and assessment, including library mission, values, and vision to help reposition the library on campus with data-driven goals, objectives, and metrics
- Personnel including vacancies, organizational structure, organizational culture, and necessary skill set
- Collaboration/Consortial partnerships internally (on campus and within the NMSU system) and externally
- Personnel and collection capacity to support significantly expanded online learning
- Digital Initiatives including digitization of collections, particularly special and archival collections
- Scholarly Communications including open education resources, institutional repositories, content development and acquisitions, and faculty research support
- Marketing and communications capacities
- Other Library Services, including instructional technology, innovation in teaching and learning, student success support, and initiatives
- Outline of skill set desired for a new dean, to be expanded and elaborated upon by NMSU
- Other issues and areas for review could arise during the process of our work
- While not the primary focus of this review, budgetary considerations will no doubt factor into the review and recommendations
- Also, the review team will generally assess the library status and governance model relative overall to peers and aspirational peers
