Preserving the Literature of the History of New Mexico Agriculture and Rural Life

As part of the U.S. Agricultural Information Network (USAIN) Preservation project, New Mexico joins twelve other states in identifying and preserving its agriculture and rural life literature from the period 1820-1945. This project was funded by a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) and will eventually encompass similar literature from all 50 states. This cooperative effort will preserve agrarian literature for future generations of scholars and farmers. Approximately 675 books and serials were identified from searches of more than 100 library catalogs and bibliographies. About 500 of these items were chosen for microfilming. The fourteen subject sections below contain about 25-75 entries each. The bibliographic entries are brief but they note whether the work is to be filmed, the library holding the work, and specific keywords. Tim McKimmie, NMSU Agriculture Librarian is the project leader. The microfilming phase of the project is scheduled to be completed by July 2002.
