The Dona Ana County Historical Society is sponsoring a public reading of the Daniel B. Jett Letters. The free public event will be held on Thursday, October 21, at 7:00 p.m. at the Good Samaritan Auditorium.
The letters are the personal correspondence of NMSU Engineering Dean Daniel Jett with his students during World War II. The Jett Letters collection is held by the NMSU Library.
The event will be narrated by NMSU University Archivist Martha Shipman Andrews, who edited the book The Whole Damned World: New Mexico Aggies at War 1941-1945 (NMSU Library and Rio Grande Books, 2008).
Readers include NMSU Library faculty members Charles Stanford, Molly Molloy, Cindy Pierard and Theresa Westbrock, as well as student employee Derek Gallardo. Dr. Richard Rundell of NMSU’s Language and Linguistics Department and Col. Stephen Groll and cadets Quaid Honeker, Joel Martin and Kyle Vincent of the campus Air Force ROTC unit will also read. NMSU graduate Daniel Sandino-Molloy will perform songs of the period.
