The New Mexico State University Library Archives and Special Collections Department announces that its Political Papers Unit has completed processing the Defense subseries of the Pete V. Domenici Senatorial Papers.
The 18 boxes are now open for use by researchers. The documents and materials in this part of the collection focus on legislation, reports, and policies related to the United States Departments of Defense and Homeland Security on both a national and New Mexican level.
“Senator Domenici was a strong advocate for the Defense department in New Mexico, and this subseries details his efforts to support New Mexico’s role in the United States’ national security structure,” said Adam Heien, Political Papers archivist. “Of particular importance are the materials related to the annual defense appropriations, the Base Realignment and Closure cycles and their impact on New Mexican installations, and those materials directly related to Cannon, Kirtland, and Holloman Air Force Bases, as well as White Sands Missile Range.”
