The New Mexico State University Library announces a free public program in celebration of Día de los Niños/Día de los Libros (Children’s Day/Book Day).
Native New Mexican author Cristina Ortega will read from her children’s books at Thomas Branigan Memorial Library on Saturday, April 26th at 1:00 p.m. Each child will receive a free book while supplies last.
Día de los Niños / Día de los Libros was founded by Pat Mora, an award-winning Latina author of poetry, nonfiction and children’s books. Mora was born in El Paso, TX and currently resides in Santa Fe, NM. “Día” is a nationally recognized program that nurtures cognitive and literacy development in ways that honor and embrace a child’s home language and culture.
The NMSU Library’s celebration is funded by a grant from NMSU’s Southwest and Border Cultures Institute, and is co-sponsored by the NMSU Library and the Thomas Branigan Memorial Library.
