Christine Moreland-Bruhnke, a staff member of the NMSU Library’s Rio Grande Historical Collections
(RGHC)/University Archives, has been selected to receive the Colonial Dames Scholarship Award. This
scholarship is a national competition judged by experts from leading U.S. libraries and archives. The award
enables Moreland-Bruhnke to attend the Spring 2000 Modern Archives Institute from June 5-16, 2000, in
Washington, D.C. At the two-week institute, sponsored by the National Archives and the Library of
Congress, participants learn about all areas of archival practice from experts from the sponsoring institutions
and they participate in hands-on exercises and tours of these facilities.

Moreland-Bruhnke, who earned a B.A. in Anthropology from NMSU in 1999, was a student employee of
the RGHC/Archives prior to graduation. She has worked as a processing assistant in the Archives since
graduation, participating in the Online Archive of New Mexico, a National Endowment for the Humanities
grant-funded project promoting online access to manuscript collections. This 18-month project, conducted
by the four major archival repositories in New Mexico, will provide integrated, consistent, and expanded
online access to the archival collections of the RGHC, the Center for Southwest Research at the University
of New Mexico, the New Mexico State Archives, and the Fray Angelico Chavez History Library in Santa
Fe.
