The Government Documents Unit is located on the 2nd floor west of Branson Library at New Mexico State University, Las Cruces, New Mexico. Reference assistance is available from 10:00 a.m.-12:00 noon and 1:00 p.m - 3:00 p.m. Monday - Friday and by appointment. Collection Details

The U.S. Government Documents collection is located in Branson Library. It is open to the public during all NMSU Library hours. The collection is divided between 1st and 2nd floor of Branson based on format.

Some documents are kept in Special Collections. To view these documents, please inquire at the Archives/Special Collection Research Room on the 4th floor of Branson.

The New Mexico State University Library is one of approximately 1,200 academic, public, and special libraries nationwide that participate in the Federal Depository Library Program by providing free public access to U.S. government information.

The NMSU Library became a federal depository in 1907, and selects about 67% of items available from the Government Printing Office. As of June, 2004, the collection is made up of approximately 974,800 documents (440,000 paper, 525,000 microform, 1600 CDROM/DVDs, and 8,200 web resources). Documents are selected to meet the research needs of New Mexico State University and the New Mexico 2nd Congressional District, and include areas such as agriculture, trade, statistics, federal regulations, science and technical publications, and census data. The collection is shelved according to the Superindendent of Documents Classification.

Circulation Policies

All public and campus patrons who qualify for a library card or guest user card may borrow circulationg government publications. The loan period is 21 days for undergraduates and the public and 120 days for faculty and graduate sutdents. Some documents may be marked non-circulating due to their reference value or historical content. Computers, photocopy machines, and microfiche reader/printers are available.
