DEFINING THE BORDER REGION
Established a framework for cooperation between the U.S. and Mexico,
and defined the area covered by the agreement as 60 miles (100 km) on
either side of the U.S./Mexico international boundary. This area is used
by other agencies to define the border region.
Finds resources and collaborates with a variety of partners to
improve the lives of people in the border region.
A 10-year environmental pgram for the U.S.-Mexico border region. Its
mission statement is "to protect the environment and public health in
the U.S.-Mexico border region, consistent with the principles of
sustainable development".
This is the previous U.S.-Mexico environmental program, run from 1996
to 2001.
Facilitates access to information on the U.S.-Mexico border region.
Applies boundary and water treaties between the U.S. and Mexico, and
deals with any problems arising for these treaties.
Preservation and protection of human health and the environment in
the U.S.-Mexico border region. Created through the North American Free
Trade Agreement (NAFTA) and covers the border region 62 miles on the
U.S. side and 186 miles on the Mexico side.
Facilitates communication and coordination within the Department of
Interior, and with Mexican counterparts dealing with the border's
natural and cultural resources
Acting as an independent federal advisory committee, it advises the
President and Congress on good neighbor practicies along the U.S.-Mexico
border.
Works with utilities related to surface water supplies. Specific to
the border region are:
Provides help in conserving, maintaining, and improving natural
resources. Websites are available for each state:
A bureau-wide investigation focusing on the U.S.-Mexico border
Established to assist individuals in locating grant funding
initiatives related to U.S.-Mexico border health issues.
Facilitates border health actitivies within the Health Resources and
Services Administration.
Provides HIV/AIDS statistics and resources for both sides of the
border.
Works to protect and improve the health of individuals in the border
region
Provides leadership in health issues and quality of life related to
the border area.
