Extra
Credit: Searching PsycLIT on CD-ROM
Instructions: For each question give
- The answer and
- The search statement you used to find the answer.
See the
handout, PsycLit on CD-ROM: The Details, for examples
of
search statements. For general help in searching, see the class notes from September 14,
Electronic Searching Basics. Point your browser to
http://lib.nmsu.edu/instruction/lsc311/beck/07notes.html to get the class notes.
Don't worry about putting the correct search line number down. Just
write out your search statement.
EX: ATTRIBUTIONS IN TI AND ROMANIC IN TI AND PY=1995. It is
important that you search and find the answer, however.
I am certain all of you can do this
assignment on your own without asking for assistance.
Here's a couple of rules of thumb to
guide you:
- RTS! Read the screen
- When in doubt, look for the help screens, then read
them
- When your search comes out badly or not what you expected:
- closely scrutinize your
search statement...there could be a typo in there
- Ask yourself "Am I in the right database?
Should I be looking in 1993-1998 or in older databases?"
- Explain your process to someone else;
by describing what you did you may discover what you didn't do or what you should have
done.
- Read the instructions CAREFULLY.
- Remember that computers are very picky
and finicky. In your searching, you must be just as exacting and specific as the computer.
Turn in the assignment at the beginning of class on Wednesday, September 30th.
Please read
each question carefully and thoroughly
- Walsh and Kurdek
published an article in 1984 on gender differences in friendship. Give the full citation for
the article.
Search Statement:
- List the full citation and the institutional affiliation for an
article titled "Suicide in Major Depression" in which E.T. Isometsa was one of the authors.
Search Statement:
- What is
the institutional affiliation and who are the authors of a journal article on the use of
heuristic modeling as a problem solving method for the game of chess?
Search Statement:
