Look over readings & notes to date. Go over focus questions from Wednesday's class and also questions that appeared on first quiz. 3. Study links listed on class schedule and readings web pages. Look over past assignments. OTHER 1. Difference as far as function, addressing, between a listserver (listproc, majordomo, listserv) and an electronic discussion group. 2. Information formats and advantages/disadvantages of each. For example, scrolls, codex, manuscripts, clay tablets, books. 3. Printing press/impact/how changed the world and who helped to change it 4. Organization of information, classification of information, types of classification schemes. 5. Database structure, similar features among databases. 6. MARC records: why important? fixed vs. variable fields 7. Reference sources, direct vs. indirect, types and their uses 8. Print Periodical indexes & abstracts. How to interpret a citation. 9. Be able to list steps required to determine whether library owns a particular periodical. 10. Citation style. Given a citation, differentiate between APA & MLA and explain differences, name parts, etc. 11. Government documents, Su Doc #s, finding aids for gov docs. 12. CD-ROMs: be able to write a search strategy given a search problem. 13. Internet history. why was internet originally developed? significance of tcp/ip, what does tcp do? what does ip do?
