English 111 Library Review


Part I

Directions: The following questions are designed to help you reflect on what you learned during the library instruction and work session that it is part of your English 111 course. Your responses will also help the Library measure how effective the instruction that it provides is.

1. Which of the following information resources can be found by using the NMSU Library catalog? Check each and every type of resource that is listed in the catalog.

2. How are books and articles different? When and how could you use each of these in your research?

 

 

3. Which of the following statements about the InfoTrac Expanded Academic ASAP article database (one of the Library’s main article databases) is true? Check each and every statement that is true.

              Not all articles listed in InfoTrac Expanded Academic ASAP are available full-text in the database.

              All the articles listed in InfoTrac Expanded Academic ASAP are also published in a print journal.

              InfoTrac Expanded Academic ASAP lists all articles available on a topic.

 

4. Suppose you did a search on cloning in an article database and got 1 million results. What are two things you could do to narrow your search and find fewer results?

 

 

5. Why are you expected to use Library resources (books, articles, etc.) for college level research? Why can’t you just use free Web resources found using general search engines (such as Google, AskJeeves, or Yahoo)?

 

 


Part II:

Directions: The following questions relate to the classroom experiences you had during your library instruction session. Your feedback will help us to improve these sessions!

1.      How well did your English 111 instructor prepare you for this library instruction session?
