Gifts of Books and Journals

The New Mexico State University Library gratefully accepts donations of books, journal issues and journal subscriptions. Many individuals, by contributing substantial personal collections, have furthered the learning, teaching and research mission of the University. While the Library needs to be selective, it continues to solicit and appreciate these gifts.

The Library acknowledges these, as well as other, donations. The acknowledgement includes a brief, general description of the materials, but will include neither an itemized bibliographic listing nor a monetary evaluation. Since the Library is prohibited from appraising gifts for tax purposes, we suggest that donors contact professional appraisers or local book dealers, before making the donation.

If requested, a gift bookplate will be placed inside volumes added to the collection.

The Library will determine the classification, location and circulation status of the gifts. Materials not added because they duplicate existing holdings or fall outside the scope of University programs may be donated to other libraries.

Gifts may be brought to the Library's Gifts Unit, First Floor East, Branson Hall, during the work week. For large gifts, please call 505-646-6297 in advance to make arrangements.
