Sunshine Week Activities, March 10-16, promoting dialogue about the importance of open government and freedom of information
This is a national initiative held each year in March to coincide with the birthday of President James Madison, a strong proponent of open government. The contest and Sunshine Week activities are sponsored by NMSU alumnus Tim Parker, the NMSU Library and the NMSU Department of Journalism & Mass Communications. Student Essay Contest
The contest is open to all current NMSU students. 1st prize is a $200 gift card and 2nd prize is a $100 gift card, both from the Barnes & Noble at NMSU bookstore.
Essays and contest entry forms must be received by 9:00 a.m. on Monday, February 25.
Reception
Walter Rubel, managing editor of the Las Cruces Sun News, will speak on the importance of New Mexico's Sunshine Laws and the winners of the Sunshine Week essay contest will be recognized.
Refresments will be served. Free and open to the public.
