Technical Services

Scope of Services:

Technical Services is responsible for many of the behind-the-scenes duties that support the library. This includes procuring new library materials, organizing & describing them for easy and convenient retrieval, preserving and repairing materials, and maintaining the online catalog. The department also oversees property & supplies operations.

Departmental Units:

  • Acquisitions - Obtains materials in many formats, including books, journals, microforms, audio/video, CD-ROMs, DVDs and electronic resources for the library collections.
    • Bindery Unit - Includes assistance in Theses and Dissertations binding; the binding of Government Documents, NMSU Library journals, new documents or documents that need repair.
  • Cataloging - Includes importing or creating bibliographic records into the online catalog, assigning call numbers and creating item records for newly acquired materials other than serials (periodicals, journals and newspapers). Once cataloged the materials are labeled and made ready for circulation.
