General Cataloging Unit

The General Cataloging Unit is reponsible for getting much of the printed material acquired by the Acquisitions unit ready for use by the public. This involves importing or creating bibliographic records into the online catalog, assigning call numbers and creating item records for newly acquired materials other than serials (periodicals, journals and newspapers). After people catalog the materials, other members of the unit label the books and get them ready for the shelves.
