SciFinder Scholar Moves to Web Access

The NMSU Library announces that the research database SciFinder Scholar, produced by the Chemical Abstracts Service, will soon be Web accessible through the Library's home page at http://lib.nmsu.edu.

The first Web link will appear on August 31. Access through the current dedicated terminals in Branson and Zuhl libraries will continue until September 21, when all access will be Web-based.

SciFinder Scholar provides NMSU students and faculty with research information from many science disciplines, including biomedical sciences, chemistry, engineering, material science and agricultural science.

SciFinder Scholar users will need to register with the new version and become familiar with the interface. The Web version requires registration in order to offer search alerts and other features.

Chemical Abstracts Service is phasing out the client version of the database, which will no longer be available at NMSU after September 21. Many other university libraries have also recently made the transition to the new version.

The Library will offer information and training materials for the new version of SciFinder Scholar. NMSU Science Librarian Dr. Nirmala Gunapala is available to meet with individuals or groups to guide them through the transition.

Information and training materials are also available on the Chemical Abstracts Service Web site at http://www.cas.org/support/academic/sf/moveweb.html.

For more information, please contact Gunapala at (575) 646-5551 or nirmalag@nmsu.edu.
