Norice Lee Shares Leadership Knowledge
Norice Lee of the NMSU Library received a Joey Rodger Leadership Grant last summer, made possible by the Urban Libraries Council. Since then, she has shared her knowledge of leadership skills with the regional library community.
The $5,000 grant gave Lee the opportunity to attend training at the Brookings Institution Leadership Lab, where she learned how to develop her leadership skills in her own voice.
The training included best practice round tables with national leaders, practical guidance and lectures on topics such as the benefits as being an inquiring leader--a "learner" versus a "judger."
Lee, who is the head of the Library's Access Services Department, received training in how to lead change, build respectful partnerships and harness the power of creative collaboration. She learned how to hone an authentic leadership style rather than adopt a style that doesn't fit.
She said that the training "reaffirmed my commitment and desire to lead in a profession that has as its core values services, honor and equity of access for all."
During the past year, Lee has shared her knowledge through presentations to the El Paso Public Library system and the Border Regional Library Association. She recently made a presentation at the annual conference of the New Mexico Library Association.
