New Mexico Group Catalog Offers Easier Way to Find Books
The NMSU Library announces that the New Mexico Group Catalog (NMCat), a catalog of materials held by New Mexico libraries, is now available throughout the state. This easy-to-use catalog may be accessed through computers at academic, public and other types of libraries statewide, including NMSU's Zuhl and Branson libraries.
NMCat is also available to members of NMSU's main campus community on their home computers through password access on the NMSU Library's home page at http://lib.nmsu.edu/books.shtml.
Whether you are a student completing an assignment, a faculty member doing research, a small business owner looking to expand your business or you're simply looking for a great book to read, NMCat will help you find what you need.
NMCat lets you search for items in all New Mexico libraries, or you can limit your search to specific library types such as academic, government, health sciences, law, public, school and special libraries. NMCat is the result of a statewide library initiative called Group Services, organized by the State Library in Santa Fe, which is bringing resource sharing and shared cataloging to New Mexico libraries.
If you do not find what you need in New Mexico, you can quickly expand your search to the WorldCat, which has catalog records for more than seventy million items owned by libraries worldwide.
Cindy Pierard, the head of Reference & Research Services at the NMSU Library, said, "NMCat provides great opportunities for New Mexico libraries to work together in obtaining resources for our users. Searching NMCat is straightforward and will be familiar to those who already use the OCLC WorldCat database for research."
