National Library Workers Day Celebrates All Library Workers

The New Mexico State University Library announces that Tuesday, April 14, is National Library Workers Day. The day occurs during National Library Week, April 13 to 17. The celebration honors the contributions of all library workers, including librarians, support staff and others who make library services possible.

The celebration is sponsored by the Allied Professional Association of the American Library Association. The Association works toward certification of individuals in specializations beyond the initial professional degree. It also supports comparable worth and pay equity initiatives, and other activities designed to improve the salaries and status of librarians and other library workers.

Jenifer Grady, the Association's president, said "Libraries work because we do!"

Library users and staff are encouraged to nominate their favorite library worker for a star in the "Galaxy of Stars" at http://www.ala-apa.org.

For more information, please contact the NMSU Library at (575) 646-1508.
