Four NMSU Library Projects Funded
Four New Mexico State University Library projects related to the Southwest and Border were recently awarded funding.
The Library has entered into a partnership with the University of New Mexico Libraries and several other institutions statewide for a project for the upcoming New Mexico centennial of statehood in 2012 called "Celebrating New Mexico Statehood."
Each partner will contribute digitized images from its collections to the project, which will provide wider access to materials relating to New Mexico history and culture. The Library will receive $5,000 for the images. Steve Hussman, the head of the Archives and Special Collections Department, is the project director for the Library's component of the project.
The Library has been awarded three Southwest and Border Cultures Institute mini-grants for programming and library acquisitions:
The 2010 Dia de los Niños/Dia de los Libros (Children's Day/Book Day) celebration, organized by reference librarians Mardi Mahaffy and Sarah Baker, was awarded $2,000.
A project to acquire resources to build a Spanish Language Gay/Lesbian Collection for the Borderland was awarded $2,000. The project director is Ellen Bosman, the head of Technical Services.
The 2010 Government Documents Centennial Celebration project, organized by government documents librarian Dotty Ormes, was awarded $2,773.50.
NMSU's Southwest and Border Cultures Institute promotes humanities research, education and outreach, with special emphasis on understanding and maintaining the unique multicultural heritage of this region.
