Three NMSU Library Projects Funded
Three New Mexico State University Library projects related to the Southwest and the Border were recently awarded grant funding.
Two of the projects received mini-grants from NMSU's Southwest and Border Cultures Institute. Molly Molloy of the Library and Neal Harvey of the Center for Latin American and Border Studies were awarded $5,500 for developing a research archive of border activism. Mardi Mahaffy and Sarah Baker of the Library received $2,000 for a Dia de Los Ninos (Children's Day/Book Day) program to be held in April 2009.
The Southwest and Border Cultures Institute promotes humanities research, education and outreach, with special emphasis on understanding and maintaining the unique multicultural heritage of this region.
The New Mexico Historical Records Advisory Board awarded $3,900 to archivists Steve Hussman and Charles Stanford for the digitization of the Esther Chávez Cano papers. The Chávez collection, given to the Library in 2007, traces stories of the murders and other crimes against women which have attracted international attention to Ciudad Juárez.
The mission of the New Mexico Historical Records Advisory Board is to advocate the preservation of the historical records of the state and to stimulate public access to the state's historical records.
