Governor Richardson Announces $21 Million Investment in Improvements at NMSU
Governor Bill Richardson proposed $21 million for investments in bricks and mortar projects at New Mexico State University during a January 13 press conference at NMSU's Zuhl Library. Funding for these projects will be included in the Governor's capital outlay budget recommendations to be considered during this legislative session.
The Governor declared 2006 New Mexico's "Year of the Child," during which the Governor plans to invest in educational and economic projects and initiatives that will benefit thousands of New Mexicans.
Governor Richardson's funding priorities for NMSU include $10 million for renovations and additions to Gardiner Hall and $5 million for the construction of a Native American Cultural Center. $2 million is requested for completion of the College of Health and Social Services building, and $4 million will provide needed resources for the Doņa Ana Branch Community College East Mesa Center.
"It is essential that we invest in our institutions," Richardson said. "This significant investment will enhance education opportunities for the people in this state."
