Library Exhibit Celebrates Children's Day/Book Day
In celebration of El Día de los Niños/ El Día de los Libros (Children's Day/Book Day), the New Mexico State University Library is hosting an exhibit of bilingual children's books in Spanish and English.
The books are being displayed on the first floor of Zuhl Library from Monday, April 24, through Sunday, April 30.
The exhibit was prepared by Irene Shown of the library reference staff. Ms. Shown is the president of the state chapter of REFORMA, a national association that promotes library services to Latinos and Spanish-speakers.
El Día de los Niños/ El Día de los Libros was founded by Pat Mora, the author of Tomás and the Library Lady and other children's books. It is now sponsored by the Association for Library Services to Children and promoted by REFORMA and other library organizations. The day's purpose is to celebrate children, families, culture and reading.
Libraries in nearly forty states have planned activities for Children's Day/Book Day, celebrated annually on April 30.
