Charles Stanford Joins Library Faculty

Charles Stanford joined the NMSU Library faculty in January as the processing archivist for the Rio Grande Historical Collections. A native of Utah, Charles received a B.A. in linguistics with a minor in Spanish from Brigham Young University in 2001. He received his master's degree in library and information science from the University of Pittsburgh in August 2006.

After two years of studying part-time and working in the University of Pittsburgh's Archives of Industrial Society, Charles was happy to return to the West. He feels that his longstanding interests in Hispanic and American Indian cultures and in the geography, history and agriculture of the Southwest make a good fit with the Rio Grande Historical Collections. He is also pleased with the opportunities offered by the Library to participate in creative and cooperative archival work.

His other research interests include the effects of media on culture and the documentation of political activism. Charles enjoys learning about birds, animals and plants, and he is eager to find out more about the local varieties. He also likes writing, reading about history, playing the drums, outdoor activities, cooking and eating - particularly chile. Charles may be contacted at his Branson Library office at (505) 646-6323 or by email at cstanfor@lib.nmsu.edu.
