Amethyst Added to Zuhl Collection
Two exquisitely matched pairs of amethyst "cathedrals" have been added to the Zuhl Collection at New Mexico State University. The pieces were a very generous gift of NMSU donors Herbert and Joan Zuhl.
One pair now graces the lobby of Zuhl Library and the other pair will be displayed at NMSU's Zuhl Museum at the Alumni and Visitors Center.
According to Zuhl Collection curator, Marilyn Huff, these elongated pointed geodes stand more than six feet tall and are lined with large, deep purple amethyst crystals. Amethyst of this quality and size comes only from the southern part of Brazil near the Uruguayan border.
The Zuhl Museum is located at 775 College Drive, and Zuhl Library is located at 2911 McFie Circle on campus. For more information, please call the museum at (505) 646-3616. For library hours, call (505) 646-4749.
