Virtual Program on Serving Gay and Lesbian Library Patrons Announced
The NMSU Library's Information Commons in Second Life announces the first in a series of lectures in this virtual world.
Librarian Ellen Bosman will present "Out in the Stacks: Serving Your Gay and Lesbian Patrons" on Monday, September 28, from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. at http://slurl.com/secondlife/NMSU%20Aggie%20Island/52/26/22.
The presentation will explore various barriers to serving gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered library patrons. Corrective actions will be suggested, and helpful resources will be provided.
Bosman is the author of Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgendered Literature: A Genre Guide (Libraries Unlimited, 2008). She is an associate professor and head of the Technical Services Department at the NMSU Library.
Tracey Thompson of the Library said, "Hosting lectures in Second Life will allow people from around the country to attend simultaneously despite the physical distances."
For more information, contact Bosman at (575) 646-1723 or ebosman@lib.nmsu.edu, or Thompson at (575) 646-8093 or thomtd@lib.nmsu.edu.
