NMSU Library Welcomes New Librarians
Two librarians recently joined the faculty of the New Mexico State University Library.
James Caufield has joined the Reference & Research Services Department as Instruction Coordinator. His office is located in Zuhl Library. He previously served as a reference and instruction librarian at St. Cloud State University in Minnesota. James holds an M.L.S. degree from Long Island University. He has B.A., M.A. and Ph. D. degrees in philosophy from the University of Connecticut and Stony Brook University, respectively. His research interests include the values and ethics of libraries. When he is not working, he enjoys swimming, playing the guitar and flute, and camping.
Daniel Smith is the new Special Collections Librarian. His office is located in Branson Library. His background includes antiquarian bookselling and literary and scholarly publishing. He has held positions at Cornell University, Herman Melville’s Arrowhead, the Wisconsin Historical Society and Microsoft. Daniel attended the University of Iowa, where he earned an M.A. degree in library and information science, an M.F.A. in comparative literature and a J.D. He also holds a B.A. degree in Russian and a B.S. in biochemistry. Among his research interests are the digital publication of historical materials, the history of the book, freedom of information and international human rights. Daniel is an exhibiting artist who works in oils and other media, and he is completing a new book of poetry.
