NMSU Library Announces Digital Collections
The NMSU Library is pleased to announce the acquisition of several important digital collections. Each collection is available from the Library's article databases web site at http://lib.nmsu.edu/article.shtml. Searching these collections from off campus is only available to NMSU main campus student, faculty or staff members. The collections are:
* U.S. Congressional Serial Set, 1817-1980
Begun in 1817 as the official collection of congressional reports and
documents, this collection was published in a "serial" fashion, hence its
name. This digitized version from Readex includes congressional
documents from the 15th (1817) through the 70th (1928) Congress. The
complete set should be completed by Fall 2008.
* American State Papers, 1789-1838
This full text collection provides primary source material on many
aspects of early American history from 1789 to 1838 and consists of
approximately 6280 numbered publications, largely Congressional but also
containing Executive Department materials, issued from 1832-1861. Unlike
the U.S. Congressional Serial Set, the publications in the American State
Papers are not divided into reports and documents and do not include
House and Senate journals. Approximately two-thirds of the publications
cover the first 14 Congresses (1789-1817), whereas the remaining third
chronologically overlap with the Serial Set from 1817-1838.
* Serial Set Maps
Map images, records, and indexing for maps published in Reports and
Documents of the 42nd Congress, 3rd session (1872) through the 52nd
Congress, 1st session (1892).
* CAB Abstracts Archive (1910-72)
This archive, produced by CABI Publishing, is comprised of 17 printed
abstract journals produced between 1910 and 1972 and includes over
1,860,000 records. CAB Abstracts Archive provides information on
agricultural science, veterinary medicine, nutrition and natural
resources. Additionally, other topics covered in the database include
biodiversity, pest control, environmental pollution, animal diseases,
food production, managing natural resources, plant and animal breeding
and more.
Over the next several weeks the Library will be announcing several more important digital collections, digital archives or electronic journal backfiles. If you have questions about these new acquisitions or other forthcoming purchases, please contact Susan E. Beck, Collection Development Coordinator, at (575) 646-6171 or susabeck@lib.nmsu.edu, or your Library subject specialist listed at http://lib.nmsu.edu/depts/collserv/sel-liai.shtml
