Library Adds News Nursing, Reference and Mega-Search Databases

The New Mexico State University Library has recently added or upgraded several important electronic resources available on networked campus computers, as well as to authorized users connecting from off campus. The resources are available on the Library's home page at http://lib.nmsu.edu.

New arrivals include two nursing databases and the second edition of Encyclopaedia Judaica, a respected scholarly encyclopedia. Also now available are InfoTrac OneFile, a federated database that allows searching across many different sources at one time, and IHS Specs & Standards, which indexes current and historical standards and related technical documents.

Health Source: Nursing/Academic Edition provides nearly 550 scholarly full text journals focusing on many medical disciplines. Its coverage of nursing and allied health is especially strong. This resource includes the Clinical Pharmacology Database, which provides up-to-date, concise and clinically relevant drug monographs for all U.S. prescription drugs, plus herbal and nutritional supplements, OTC products and new drugs.

The Cochrane Library contains high-quality, independent evidence to inform healthcare decision-making. It includes reliable evidence from Cochrane and other systematic reviews, clinical trials and more. Cochrane reviews bring the combined results of the world's best medical research studies, and they are recognized as the gold standard in evidence-based health care.

Encyclopaedia Judaica (2007) is an updated edition of a highly lauded work on Judaism, featuring more than 21,000 entries on Jewish life, culture, history and religion written by Israeli, American and European subject specialists. Access to it is available through the electronic reference books link on the Library's home page.

InfoTrac OneFile provides a large number of articles from leading journals and reference sources. The database includes a variety of subject-specific collections such as agriculture, business, communications and mass media, criminal justice, diversity studies and environmental studies and policy. It also includes gardening, landscape, and horticulture; military and intelligence; nursing and allied health; tourism, hospitality, and leisure; vocations, careers, and technical education; and war and terrorism. Full text versions of the New York Times, Financial Times, and Albuquerque Tribune are also included. Any of the individual databases may be cross-searched or searched separately. The full text of many articles is available online.

IHS Specs & Standards indexes more than one million standards documents from over 370 standards developing organizations, along with 350,000 U.S. military standardization documents. This database can be searched by document number, developing organization, topic and keyword.

Please send your questions or comments about any of these resources to your subject specialist at the NMSU Library or to Cindy Pierard at (505) 646-7010 or email cpierard@lib.nmsu.edu.
