Library Accepts John Cotton Dana Library Publicity Award

The New Mexico State University Library was the only academic library among nine winners of the John Cotton Dana Library Public Relations Award, the most prestigious award of the American Library Association (ALA).

The award, sponsored by the H.W. Wilson Company, a publisher of library resources, commemorates the public relations skills of John Cotton Dana, the eleventh president of the association.  The awards ceremony took place on June 18, 2001, at the ALA Annual Conference in San Francisco.

The Library’s award-winning campaign celebrated the $3 million naming gift for Zuhl Library, given by Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Zuhl in 2000, and associated publicity and festivities.  The John Cotton Dana contest is open to all libraries in the world.  There are about 150 entries per year.  Award winners provide a publicity scrapbook and display that are showcased at the ALA Annual Conference.
