Qualifications: NO TYPING TEST REQUIRED FOR THIS POSITION.

THIS IS A BARGAINING UNIT POSITION WITH AMERICAN FEDERATION OF STATE, COUNTY & MUNICIPAL EMPLOYEES. (AFSCME)

DAYS/HOURS WORKED: MONDAY-FRIDAY 40-HOUR WORK WEEK SCHEDULED IN ACCORDANCE WITH NMSU LIBRARY FLEXTIME WORK SCHEDULE POLICY, #004.

REQUIRED: Two (2) years of college level study and two years of academic library experience or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provide the above knowledge, skills and abilities. Basic computers skills, such as use of office productivity software and the Internet. Familiarity with library automation systems. Ability to work under general supervision. Ability to work cooperatively and effectively with others to achieve results. Basic communication skills characterized by providing the timely and appropriate exchange of ideas, facts, and data between individuals and/or groups through effective listening, written, and verbal skills. Basic problem solving & decision making skills characterized by the capacity to think critically, evaluate systematically, and recall and use information. Accuracy, neatness; Willingness to pursue additional cataloging training.

PREFERRED: Associate's degree or coursework in library science; previous cataloging experience; familiarity with the basic elements of a bibliographic record and cataloging standards, such as MARC, and related cataloging tools.

APPLICANTS INCLUDING REGULAR NMSU EMPLOYEES MUST HAVE A CURRENT APPLICATION ON FILE WITH THE OFFICE OF HUMAN RESOURCES TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS POSITION.
Examples of Duties: Catalogs Promptcat and CIP monographs with CIP data; Edits, updates, and transfers information between cataloging tools. Validates subject headings. Upgrades cataloging descriptions to national standards and local practices. Verifies access points. Maintains written documentation regarding position's duties. Performs other duties as assigned.
