DAYS/HOURS WORKED: MONDAY-FRIDAY 40-HOUR WORK WEEK (FYI: THE MAIN CAMPUS LIBRARY HAS FLEXIBLE WORK SCHEDULE POLICY IN FORCE SO OUR STAFF HAVE A VARIETY OF HOUR COMBINATIONS THAT CAN BE WORKED BETWEEN 7:30AM AND 6:00PM AS LONG AS THEY COMPLETE A 40-HOUR WORK WEEK.)

Bachelor's degree in a related field; three years of academic library experience; or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the above knowledge, skills and abilities. Familiarity with the basic elements of a bibliographic record and cataloging standards such as MARC. Familiarity with library automation systems and related tools. Basic ability to read Romance language materials at the bibliographic level. Ability to work under broad supervision and make independent decisions from diverse alternatives subject to general review in final stages Computers skills, such as use of office productivity software and the Internet. APPLICANTS INCLUDING REGULAR NMSU EMPLOYEES MUST HAVE A CURRENT APPLICATION ON FILE WITH THE OFFICE OF HUMAN RESOURCES TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS POSITION.
Examples of Duties: Catalogs new, re-class, and gift materials without CIP data--working with English and non-English materials with MARC contributed copy or vendor records by identifying acceptable records. Creates new bibliographic records as needed. Inputs, edits, updates, and transfers information between cataloging tools. Assigns call numbers and validates subject headings. Upgrades cataloging descriptions to national standards and local practices. Verifies access points. Creates simple authority records. Processes and updates holding screens for multiple formats. Catalogs selected non-print formats.
