Qualifications: NO TYPING TEST REQUIRED FOR THIS POSITION.

**THIS IS A BARGAINING UNIT POSITION WITH AMERICAN FEDERATION OF STATE, COUNTY & MUNICIPAL EMPLOYEES. (AFSCME)

DAYS/HOURS WORKED: MONDAY-FRIDAY 40-HOUR WORK WEEK SCHEDULED IN ACCORDANCE WITH NMSU LIBRARY FLEXTIME WORK SCHEDULE POLICY, #004 (http://lib.nmsu.edu/aboutlib/policies/index.shtml).

REQUIRED: Two (2) years college level study and six (6) years of academic library experience or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the above knowledge, skills and abilities. Familiarity with the basic elements of a bibliographic record and cataloging standards, such as MARC, and related cataloging tools; public service orientation; critical thinking skills, to assist users with reference questions and make referrals; strong communication skills to work effectively with staff and users; strong organization and time management skills to manage multiple projects; working knowledge of computer hardware and software such as Microsoft Office programs and the Internet; ability to work independently, under broad supervision, and in a team environment.

PREFERRED: Familiarity with library print and electronic resources, particularly federal government information and/or map resources; familiarity with or willingness to learn Federal Depository Library Program rules and practices relating to cataloging and organization of depository materials. familiarity with or willingness to learn Superintendent of Documents classification and processing tools; basic knowledge of OCLC and Voyager systems; supervisory skills.

Examples of Duties: Assists library users with research questions concerning government information and map collections, making referrals as appropriate. Develops and uses knowledge of information resources to assist researchers and conduct cataloging work. Uses vendor records or contributed copy to create local catalog records appropriate for the item in hand and in accordance with national standards and Library practices. Updates holdings screens for multiple formats. Monitors the physical collection for organizational, shelving, signage, or preservation problems. Hires, trains, supervises, and evaluates student assistants. Develops and updates procedures for the Unit's training manual. Performs other duties, such as retrospective cataloging projects, as assigned.
