Qualifications: NO TYPING TEST REQUIRED FOR THIS POSITION.

THIS IS A BARGAINING UNIT POSITION WITH AMERICAN FEDERATION OF STATE, COUNTY & MUNICIPAL EMPLOYEES. (AFSCME)

DAYS/HOURS WORKED: MONDAY-FRIDAY 40-HOUR WORK WEEK SCHEDULED IN ACCORDANCE WITH NMSU LIBRARY FLEXTIME WORK SCHEDULE POLICY, #004.

REQUIRED: Two (2) years college level study and six years of academic library experience or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the above knowledge, skills and abilities. Familiarity with the basic elements of a bibliographic record and cataloging standards, such as MARC, and related cataloging tools; familiarity with library automation systems; rudimentary ability to decipher Romance language materials at the title level; computers skills, such as use of office productivity software and the Internet.

PREFERRED: Associate's degree or coursework in library science; previous training or instruction experience; familiarity with state or federal documents.

APPLICANTS INCLUDING REGULAR NMSU EMPLOYEES MUST HAVE A CURRENT APPLICATION ON FILE WITH THE OFFICE OF HUMAN RESOURCES TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS POSITION.
Examples of Duties: Catalogs new, re-class, and gift materials without CIP data - working with English and non-English materials with MARC contributed copy or vendor records by identifying acceptable records; assigns call numbers and validates subject headings; upgrades cataloging descriptions to national standards and local practices; verifies access points; creates simple authority records; processes and update holdings screens for multiple formats; catalogs juvenile belles letters and selected non-print formats; serves as back up cataloger for state documents; trains student workers as needed; maintains written documentation regarding position's duties; performs other duties as assigned.
