Qualifications: NO TYPING TEST REQUIRED FOR THIS POSITION.

THIS IS A BARGAINING UNIT POSITION WITH AMERICAN FEDERATION OF STATE, COUNTY & MUNICIPAL EMPLOYEES. (AFSCME)

DAYS/HOURS WORKED: MONDAY-FRIDAY 40-HOUR WORK WEEK SCHEDULED IN ACCORDANCE WITH NMSU LIBRARY FLEXTIME WORK SCHEDULE POLICY, #004.

REQUIRED: Two (2) years college level study and six (6) years of academic library experience or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the above knowledge, skills and abilities. Familiarity with the basic elements of archival arrangement and description and related current cataloging tools; public service orientation; critical thinking skills, to assist users with reference questions and make referrals; strong communication skills to work effectively with staff and users; strong organization and time management skills to manage multiple projects; working knowledge of computer hardware and software such as Microsoft Office programs and the Internet; ability to work independently, under broad supervision, and in a team environment.

PREFERRED: Familiarity with library print and electronic resources, particularly legislative/governmental information and/or resources; familiarity with or willingness to learn archival best practices and methods relating to organization of political papers, photographs, and materials; supervisory skills.

Examples of Duties: Under broad supervision of the Political Papers Archivist, assists library users with research questions concerning political papers and related collections, making referrals as appropriate; develops and uses knowledge of information resources to assist researchers and conduct descriptive archival work including creation of finding guides and related indexes; understands basic archival functions and Library practices; monitors the physical collection for organizational, shelving, signage, or preservation problems; hires, trains, supervises, and evaluates student assistants; performs other duties as assigned.
