Qualifications: NO TYPING TEST REQUIRED FOR THIS POSITION.

THIS IS A BARGAINING UNIT POSITION WITH AMERICAN FEDERATION OF STATE, COUNTY & MUNICIPAL EMPLOYEES. (AFSCME)

DAYS/HOURS WORKED: MONDAY-FRIDAY 40-HOUR WORK WEEK SCHEDULED IN ACCORDANCE WITH NMSU LIBRARY FLEXTIME WORK SCHEDULE POLICY, #004.

REQUIRED: Two (2) years college level study and six (6) years of academic library experience or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the above knowledge, skills and abilities. Knowledge of and experience with procedures used in the preservation and processing of archival collections; experience with collection management software such as PastPerfect, Filemaker Pro; familiarity and/or experience with DACS Standards, College and University Archives Thesaurus, MARC records, and Encoded Archival Description; excellent time-management skills; ability to prioritize activities according to Departmental requirements; excellent verbal and written communications skills; knowledge of office and university policies and procedures.

PREFERRED: Knowledge of and/or experience with other computer applications used in archival management such as web design and development, digitization; understanding of historical research methods and demonstrated ability to instruct patrons in use of archival resources; knowledge of principles and practices of supervision and training.

APPLICANTS INCLUDING REGULAR NMSU EMPLOYEES MUST HAVE A CURRENT APPLICATION ON FILE WITH THE OFFICE OF HUMAN RESOURCES TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS POSITION.
Examples of Duties: Assists in all operations relating to the processing of the administrative and historical documents relating to New Mexico State University including accession, arrangement, description, and cataloging as well as other duties as assigned; works under the general supervision of the University Archivist; exercises supervision over classified and student employees as assigned.

Duties include but are not limited to the following: accessions all incoming University-related collections; processes, catalogs and preserves items relating to University collections including photographs; researches and writes finding aids; creates MARC records and EAD-generated finding aids for Rocky Mountain Online Archives; provides reference and research services for the public and the Department including records retrievals relating to University Archives; monitors email reference questions, referring requests to appropriate responders, providing follow-up to assure all queries have been answered fully; schedules reference desk details; keeps statistics and database of users; accounts for all photocopy and merchandise cash intake on a weekly basis; trains and supervises departmental student employees, monitoring work flow and production; undertakes yearly inventory of University collections and supplies.
