DAYS/HOURS WORKED: MONDAY-FRIDAY 40-HOUR WORK WEEK SCHEDULED IN ACCORDANCE WITH NMSU LIBRARY FLEXTIME WORK SCHEDULE POLICY, #004.

Bachelor's degree in a related field; three (3) years of academic library experience or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the above knowledge, skills and abilities. Familiarity with library print and electronic reference resources. Strong public service orientation. General knowledge of computer hardware and software to assist users and teach in library classrooms. Intermediate knowledge of software in the Microsoft Office suite, preferably Microsoft Access and Microsoft Excel to build, maintain, and generate department reports. Critical thinking skills, to interpret and answer reference questions, to assist users in finding resources, and to refer users as appropriate. Strong communication skills to work effectively with a wide range of staff and users. Strong organization and time management skills to effectively manage multiple projects. Strong general teaching and presentation skills for instruction and instruction support roles. Ability to work independently, under broad supervision, and in a team environment.

APPLICANTS INCLUDING REGULAR NMSU EMPLOYEES MUST HAVE A CURRENT APPLICATION ON FILE WITH THE OFFICE OF HUMAN RESOURCES TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS POSITION.
Examples of Duties: Assists library users with research questions. Interprets requests and makes referrals when appropriate. Troubleshoots basic hardware and software questions encountered by library users when working on public computers. Teaches course-related and general library research sessions in a classroom environment. Prepares lesson plans and learning materials for sessions to facilitate instruction program goals. Coordinates and provides tours of library facilities and services to NMSU and visiting groups. Assists departmental library faculty with instruction, both in the classroom and by creating learning materials. Works collaboratively with other department members to review existing services and develop new services in response to user needs. Creates and maintains data on reference and instruction programs, and generates reports on activities as needed. Coordinates reference desk and classroom scheduling and maintains online calendars. Serves as a primary contact for the Library's Instruction Program in scheduling instruction sessions and training staff and guest instructors in the use of the Library's electronic classrooms. Hires, trains, supervises, and evaluates student employees, and assists with coordinating department's use of annual student employee hours allocation.
