New Mexico State University Library invites nominations and applications for the position of Department Head for Access Services.

POSITION DESCRIPTION: Reporting to the Associate Dean, the Access Services Department Head has broad general administrative responsibilities for the operation of the department. Provides leadership and coordination for the development, management, and evaluation of circulation desks, reserves, current periodicals, interlibrary loan, document delivery, and collections maintenance. Specific duties include: manage 13 FTE staff and approximately 30 FTE student assistants; assures compliance with established policies related to Access Services; develop and communicate goals and objectives for the department; participate in the libraryís management group, taking a broad library-wide perspective while representing the departmentís needs; serve on library and campus committees.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
MLS degree from an ALA-accredited program; minimum of five years of relevant supervisory and coordination experience in an academic library which includes recent, successful management of an access services unit; demonstrated familiarity with electronic systems and services; techno-savvy; strong service orientation; excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills; superior problem-solving and organizational skills; ability to work as a member of the management group and with diverse populations.

Preferred: strong record of innovation in the implementation of technologies such as document delivery services, electronic reserves, and electronic requests for interlibrary loan and document delivery; working knowledge of copyright laws as they pertain to access services.
