Salary:$32,500 - $39,000

Required:   MLS from an ALA-accredited program. Experience with library automation systems and familiarity with electronic databases and appropriate software applications; ability to work efficiently and meet project goals and deadlines. Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to interact effectively with faculty, students, staff and general public. Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team setting.

Preferred:   Three to five years of professional experience in an academic or research institution or equivalent with a background in rare books or special collections librarianship. Knowledge of the history and/or literature of the Southwest and the border region of New Mexico. Demonstrated knowledge of the out-of-print book market, preservation of published materials, and experience in fund raising.

Responsibilities:   Reporting to the Department Head for Archives and Special Collections, the Special Collections Librarian will supervise the Special Collections unit; manage collection development and preservation activities including the purchase and acquisition of materials; interact with dealers and trade presses; collaborate with Technical Services units; engage in campus and community outreach activities; provide reference service; supervise non-exempt and student employees; train other members of the department as needed; and be assigned special projects. As a member of the library faculty, is responsible for achieving in the following areas: librarianship, research and creative activity, and service.

POSITION INFORMATION:   This is a 9-month tenure-track position at the rank of assistant professor. Salary range: $32,500 - $39,000 depending upon qualifications. For benefits see the University's web page at http://www.nmsu.edu/~personel/benefits.html.
