New Mexico State University Library is seeking candidates for the following position:
Reporting to the Department Head for Archives and Special Collections, the Processing Archivist will process collections and prepare finding aids; provide reference service; supervise classified staff and student employees; and be assigned special projects. Trains other members of department as needed. As a member of the library faculty, is responsible for achieving in the following areas: librarianship; professional knowledge; research, publication, and creative activity; and service.
Required: MLS or equivalent degree with specialization in archives administration, in hand by hire date, from an ALA-accredited program. Knowledge of current arrangement and description, and processing standards; emphasis and experience with computers and electronic Web access including XML, HTML, SGML and EAD; familiarity with electronic databases and appropriate microcomputer applications; ability to work efficiently and meet project goals and deadlines in a fast-paced work environment. Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Preferred: Two years professional experience working in an archive or manuscript repository in an academic or research library. Demonstrated abilities in project planning and management. Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a complex, changing environment.
