QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:   MLS from an ALA-accredited program. Recent professional reference and instruction experience in an academic library. Thorough knowledge of standard print and electronic information sources. Strong teaching skills. Demonstrated and current knowledge of information literacy concepts. Knowledge of established and emerging instructional methods and technologies. Excellent interpersonal, organizational, presentation, written and oral communication skills. Strong group leadership skills.

Preferred:   Teaching or training experience in a classroom setting. Familiarity with course management software such as WebCT. Experience with assessment of instruction programs.

Responsibilities:   This position reports to the Head of the Reference & Research Services Department. The Instruction Coordinator leads and coordinates all of the NMSU Library's instruction/information literacy activities, which includes course-related instruction sessions, credit courses and workshops. Evaluates and assesses the instruction program, including teaching effectiveness and student learning outcomes. Maintains and makes available statistical and assessment data on the instruction program and program activities. Coordinates policy development for instructional use of library classrooms. Promotes and facilitates training and development of library staff who are involved with instruction. Monitors instructional developments at the University and national levels, and represents the Library in campus discussions on effective teaching and learning. Provides reference services, which includes evening and weekend hours. As a member of the library faculty, is responsible for achieving in the following areas: librarianship, research and creative activity, and service.
