Position Title:Business Operations Specialist (Library Human Resources)

Bachelor's Degree and 4 years job-related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the above knowledge, skills, and attributes. Comprehensive knowledge of: university and library policies on recruitment, hiring, leave accrual/use, leave without pay, and FMLA; human resources administration policies, procedures, and practices; Faculty promotion and tenure policies and procedures. Advanced computer skills for word processing and data entry; spreadsheet preparation and maintenance; management of databases used in faculty searches and professional recruitment; training of other office support staff; use of university's hiring/ payroll/ purchasing systems. Must be able to: maintain the highest level of confidentiality; organize resources and establish priorities; plan, develop, and coordinate multiple tasks; gather and evaluate data, compile information, and prepare reports; supervise, train, evaluate, and provide leadership; make administrative and procedural decisions and judgments on sensitive, confidential issues; use interpersonal and communications skills (oral & written); effectively use conflict resolution skills; use independent judgment; assist in short and long range planning activities for the office/department; assist in development of new office strategies and procedures; promote a cooperative work environment; problem solve; provide efficient record maintenance; provide non-supervisory direction to department heads, and all library staff as necessary.

Examples of Duties:   Oversee and facilitate human resources administration procedures and documentation for the library; coordinate faculty, exempt, and non-exempt staff searches/ recruitments as needed; carry out and coordinate administrative activities associated with academic affairs, such as library faculty promotion and tenure and evaluation processes; coordinate non-exempt and exempt staff evaluation process and documentation; serve as the primary point of contact and liaison with other offices, individuals, and institutions; perform research and analysis on specific issues, as required, and independently prepare non-routine letters and/or reports, which may be highly sensitive and confidential in nature; provide assistance in the understanding and interpretation of university and library policies and procedures, as appropriate, and ensure that office operations are in compliance with policy provisions and standards; assist in the coordination and completion of special projects; supervision of one non-exempt employee in support role, to include: training, workload, monitoring employee job performance; provide non-supervisory direction to other staff support; coordinate with office manager in the assignment of special projects to other support staff for providing staff support to office administrators. Special projects as assigned.
