Required: MLS degree from an ALA-accredited program; minimum of five years of relevant supervisory and coordination experience in an academic library which includes recent, successful management of an access services area; demonstrated familiarity with electronic and integrated library systems and services; technically savvy; strong service orientation; excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills; superior problem-solving and organizational skills; ability to work as a member of the library’s management group and with diverse populations.
Preferred: Strong record of innovation in the implementation of technologies such as document delivery services, electronic reserves, and digital services for improved public use and access; working knowledge of copyright laws and guidelines as they pertain to access services.
Responsibilities: Reporting to the Associate Dean, the Access Services Department Head has broad general administrative responsibilities for the operation of the department. Coordinates activities associated with other NMSU campus libraries. Provides leadership and coordination for the development, management, and evaluation of circulation/information services desks, copy center/reserves, current periodicals, information delivery services (interlibrary loan and document delivery), and collections maintenance. Specific duties include: manage 13 FTE staff and approximately 30 FTE student employees; assure compliance with established policies and procedures related to Access Services; develop and communicate goals and objectives for the department; participate in the library’s management group, taking a broad library-wide perspective while representing the department’s needs; service on library and campus committees.
